About Trivela

The site was conceived in South West London during the first lockdown of 2020. Trivela seeks out everything that combines the joys of football and travel.

Inspired by podcasts such as Outside Write and books like Matt McGinn's Against the Elements we set out to create a site that would become a hub for anything interesting and thought provoking in the world of football travel.

We review non-fiction books that combine football with a sense of travel. Travel can mean many things - but we like to take quite a broad view of the definition at Trivela. To us it can mean a book that revisits all of the forgotten teams of East Germany's DDR; the vivid description on the upbringing of one of football's greats in Buenos Aires or a humorous account of travelling to every corner of England watching Chester FC.

We also publish match reports that focus on the stadium experience (from watching Champions League, to English non-league teams), review the best football Apps and Sites out there, and sometimes take a sideways look at football through museum exhibitions or football themed bars or resturants.

As Steve Hill states in his excellent book The Card, "They say that travel broadens the mind, but what they don't tell you is that football broadens the travel". Our sentiments indeed!

For those interested in what the name means:

Trivela - to cross or shoot, using the outside of the foot, spinning the ball and creating a unique curve. The word is borrowed from the Portuguese language, where the art of the trivela is most revered.
